This website is owned and operated by Melinda Downing.  I am committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.

This policy (together with my terms of use WEBSITE TERMS OF USE) sets out the basis on which any personal data I collect from you via this website, or that you provide, will be processed.  Please read the following carefully to understand my views and practices regarding your personal data and how I will treat it.

For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”), the data controller is Melinda Downing of 8 The Maltings, Blyth, S81 8HD.

1. INFORMATION I MAY COLLECT FROM YOU

I may collect and process the following data about you:

• Information that you provide by filling in forms on this site www.meldowning.com (“the site”). This includes information provided at the time of registering to use the site, information you provide to enable me to supply services to you, posting material or requesting further information about my services. I may also ask you for information.

• If you contact me, I may keep a record of that correspondence.

• I may also ask you to complete surveys that I use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them.

• Details of transactions you carry out through the site.

• Details of your visits to the site including, but not limited to, traffic data, location data, weblogs and other communication data, whether this is required for billing purposes or otherwise and the resources that you access.

2. IP ADDRESSES

The site may collect information about your computer, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration and to report aggregate information to advertisers. This is statistical data about users' browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.

The site uses cookies.  A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that is put on your computer if you agree.  These cookies allow the site to distinguish you from other users of the site, which helps to provide you with a good experience when you browse the site and also allows the site to be improved.  The cookies used are “analytical” cookies, which recognise you and count the number of visitors to the site and to see how visitors move around the site when they are using it.  This helps improve the way the site works, for example by ensuring users are finding what they are looking for easily.  The site also uses “strictly necessary cookies”, these are cookies that are required for the operation of the site, they include, for example cookies that enable users to log in to secure areas of the site in order to acquire services.  Finally the site also uses “functionality” cookies.  Functionality cookies are used to recognise users when they return to a website.  They enable the personalisation of content, the recognition of users and remember user preferences.

All information provided is stored on secure servers. Where you have been given (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of the site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. Please do not share a password with anyone.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although I will do my best to protect your personal data, I cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to the site; any transmission is at your own risk. Once your information has been received, strict procedures and security features will be used to try to prevent unauthorised access.

Information which is held about you will be used in the following ways:

This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

7. YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right to ask me not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. I will usually inform you (before collecting your data) if I intend to use your data for such purposes or if I intend to disclose your information to any third party for such purposes.

8. ACCESS TO INFORMATION

The Act gives you the right to access information held about you. Your right of access can be exercised in accordance with the Act. Any access request may be subject to a fee of £10 to meet the costs of providing you with details of the information held about you.
