Achieve an Alkaline/Acid Balance
It is vital for good health to have a balance of around 70% Alkaline to 30% Acid ratio in the body.  Most people have this the other way round.
A high acid state creates the soil for inflammation which leads to faster aging and degenerative disease such as arthritis, osteoporosis, insomnia, rheumatism, aching joints, skin conditions, Candida, fungal infections, muscle pain, gout, along with some cancers.
If the body is too acid it tries to create balance.  The blood (via the kidneys) withdraws alkalising minerals from anywhere it can find them, beginning with the hair, skin and nails, moving onto the bones.
High acid levels can be as a result of too many acid forming foods, along with high levels of stress and smoking.
Reduce – not eliminate, just eat in smaller amounts overall:
o Meat (Fish, turkey & chicken are lower options of animal protein.)
o Egg yolk
o Dairy – organic is the best
o Nuts (except almonds, fresh coconut & chestnuts)
o Grains (except millet, buckwheat, amaranth & quinoa)
o Refined sugars found in cakes, biscuits, processed sweet foods.
o Chocolate – an acid forming treat with beneficial properties, just ration it.
o Alcohol, Coffee & Tea
o Fizzy drinks and sweetened fruit juices
o Cranberries, plums, prunes & rhubarb
o Malt vinegar
All the above are fine in moderation – balance in the key.
Increase:
o All vegetables – the best are wheat grass, alfalfa, kelp, seaweed, parsley, watercress, carrots, endives & celery.
o All green foods which are high in chlorophyll are high in magnesium which is a major alkalising mineral – particularly cabbage, kale, broccoli, spring greens, green beans, asparagus & spinach.
o All fruits – especially melons (particularly cantaloupe) papaya, dates, mangoes, lemons, limes & figs.
o The best supplement on the market, in my opinion, is a bioavailable (meaning still a food substance) called ‘Juice Plus’ – I’ve taken it 4 years.
o Take 1 tablespoon of Organic Cider Vinegar with a little warm water just before meals.
o Green tea
o Honey & brown rice syrup
o Practise deep breathing techniques regularly.  This draws more oxygen into the body and allows more carbon dioxide to leave.
o Meditation or any form of Mindfulness practise.
